Music Diary for January 2018
Hey guys - I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Years!
This is a short music diary for you all this time, because it's still early in the month and I will be posting another one at the end of January, so keep your eyes peeled to see what I'm vibing to then!
1) The Temper Trap - Love Lost
I have been a huge fan of The Temper Trap since I was 15 years old, maybe a little earlier. I was obsessed with their album 'Conditions', and know it from top to bottom, and bottom to top. I actually bought the album for my sister, too! I love so many songs from this album, the iconic 'Sweet Disposition', 'Fader' and Fools. But I always held this one in such high regard and have been getting back in touch with my indie roots the last few weeks, and this has been one of my favourite trips down memory lane. This album reminds me of being an angsty, wild teenager, getting wavy and listening to this in my headphones. Do you guys like The Temper Trap? Let me know what you think of the song, and the video is excellent too, it always makes me laugh.
2) Ray BLK - 5050
I must admit, I was late discovering how incredible Ray BLK is. I got into her a few months back after hearing her song with Stormzy 'My Hood' and then I did some digging and listened to her album 'Durt' and fell in love. I loved 'Chill Out' firstly, and had that on repeat for weeks, and now I am obsessed with 5050. Ray BLK also featured Wretch 32 on this project for the track 'Gone' which is great, too. Every song she does is such a vibe, the production is always so smooth, and she has a fantastic voice and tone. She's sassy, and empowering for women. I've been banging this one hard, singing the lyrics 'If you ain't trying to wife me, then you best get off my line' very loudly. She always makes me feel so sassy, I love her. Definitely listen to 'Durt', you won't regret it. Watch the video to the song below now!
3) Yxng Bane - Froze
I've been vibing to this song for the last couple of months so it definitely deserves to make the cut in my Music Diary. I feel like I am always featuring a Yxng Bane song but what can I say, no one does wavy as well as him. I predicted his blow up at the end of 2016 and last year was an incredible year for him. My aim is to definitely see him live this year, I'm really looking forward to more music from him. I'd definitely say this is a little more grimy than his usual sound, but he smashed it again. Watch the video below, now!
4) Kill Miami x IAMDDB - Teardrops (Feat. Mugun)
A few weeks before Christmas, I received an email from a Manchester based producer called Kill Miami who was sending me his new R&B single that he had worked on with IAMDDB and Mugun. I'm a big fan of IAMDDB and predict HUGE things for her in 2018, so I was curious and excited to listen, and it did not disappoint. I absolutely loved the track, it's as wavy as I hoped. Taken from her 'Vibe, Volume 2' project, dropped in 2017, this is a banger. After checking out more of Kill Miami's stuff and seeing what a respected producer he was, I was honoured that he had reached out to me. I have been banging this song for the last month, take a listen below! Big up the feature on this one as well, Mugun and IAMDDB sound so wavy together on this, and the beat and production is a perfect backdrop to their combined sound.
5) IAMDDB - Shade
I also love IAMDDB's track 'Shade' taken from 'Hoodrich Vol 3' which was the second project that she dropped in 2017; her work ethic was mad last year and it definitely paid off. I would say 'Shade' was one of her breakthrough tracks, if you haven't listened, then do! And get to know IAMDDB trust me, she is dope!
6) HEX - Gene Kelly
When writing a post for Link Up TV about six weeks ago, I was asked to review this song. I did not expect to like it as much as I did but it was on repeat for weeks for me. There is also a remix of this song that Yungen jumped on, but I prefer the original I think. HEX is wavy and this song is so catchy, with dope visuals alongside, too.
7) David Gray - Please Forgive Me
A weird choice, I know, but if you have been reading my blog for a while now, or know me at all, you would know that this is how varied and random my music taste is. I have always been a fan of David Gray, from about 6 years old. My mam used to listen to him a lot, therefore I would. His album 'White Ladder' was one of the first I had, and I know it back to back. I'm not really sure why I have been listening to this a lot at the moment, probably nostalgia, as I do with a lot of music. I remind myself of times in my life, and I like to listen and feel where I was at a certain time. This was a song, among many others of his, that during very troubling and chaotic points of my life, kept me calm.
